what to expect
who we are
Towering Oaks is a fellowship of believers located in Greeneville, TN. We exist to KNOW GOD and to MAKE HIM KNOWN. Jesus Christ is our Savior and the builder of the church (Mt. 16:18), The people of the church comprise the Body (Eph. 1:22-23), and Our future is Bright! Towering Oaks gathers for worship, Bible Study, fellowship, discipleship, and encouragement. Towering Oaks scatters just like the first centruy church did to take the good message to all with whom we come in contact, and to minister to our world.
WORSHIP
God placed us on earth for His pleasure. We were created to worship our Creator. He didn't need us. He wanted us... and still does. Our best gift to Him is to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to Him. (Romans 12:1-2)
FELLOWSHIP
There are some that may tell you that they spend enough personal time with God and don't need a church. But fellowship is an integral part of the life of a maturing Christian. Paul writes in Romans 1:12 that we are to be mutually encouraged by each other's faith. That's difficult to do when we don't spend time together. Not to mention the great potluck dinners.
DISCIPLESHIP
Discipleship - what's the first word that comes to mind? Disciple. Jesus had twelve. Ringing a bell? Webster's defines a disciple this way: "Someone who believes and helps to spread the doctrine of another." The only problem is, many Christians today stop at belief. True Christ-followers not only believe but also tell others about the Good News of God's saving grace.
MINISTRY
Research shows that, in the average church congregation, twenty percent of the members do eighty percent of the work while eighty percent do only twenty percent of the same. That proves that the general consensus about church is that it's about what God (or the church) can do for us. But we weren't created to be served but to serve. Just as Christ demonstrated servant leadership as he washed the feet of his disciples in John 13, we should also be ready and willing to do the work, or ministry, to which God has called us.
EVANGELISM
Matthew 28:19-20 is fairly clear that we're to share Christ with others. So, we feel like it should be a foundational element of our community - to bring others to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. If you'd like to know more about how to live forever with your Heavenly Father, click here.
